Jacques’ Garage in Kirkland
Garage Makeovers
The owner of this garage wanted to park his two vehicles and still have space to keep a freezer located at the base of the staircase, add storage on the staircase landing, maximize floor to ceiling storage, and place it all on top of brand-new flooring.
This project proves that you can park 2 cars in the garage and still have a ton of storage space. The design involved renovating the garage while maintaining some key elements in the footprint from the original makeover. To start, some of the infrastructure needed attention. First, foundation cement walls were insulated and finished with dry wall. Next, the ceiling required extensive repairs due to a sagging wooden mezzanine. A new concrete floor surface was poured to correct the levelling and slope and the drain box was repaired to make it parallel to the walls. Other improvements include replacing and relocating all electrical outlets to serve the freezer, irrigation and alarm systems, central vacuum, and garage door openers. Brand new LED lighting, as well as a new heating system featuring two fan heaters and an industrial fan for better heat circulation, were also installed. Proper wiring for a future electric vehicle charging station was also built in. Finally, the whole garage was repainted to prepare for the installation of all the different products included in the makeover.

Porcelain tile flooring, including baseboards, was installed to welcome a brand-new staircase, handrail, landing and cantilever rack in natural and checker plate aluminum. Custom laminate Duralum furniture uses all the available space in a recessed section of the back wall while integrating an existing column on the left-hand side of the freezer. A large, narrow cabinet conceals irrigation and alarm systems. Two cabinets with adjustable shelves are combined with open boxes, also with adjustable shelves, to make the best of a cantilever rack directly anchored into the staircase landing. This clever arrangement offers much needed storage on both sides. Two large PVC wall organizing panels, featuring a variety of wall organizing accessories, provide a solution for long handle tools, a ladder, stepladder, and other tools and equipment. Finally, practical bike hoists use the ceiling in a most efficient fashion while the entire space above the garage doors offers extensive storage for seasonal items.
